Canaletto, View of the Grand Canal in Venice, c. 1734-1736, Woburn Abbey.
The Grand Tour – Destination Italy takes you on a journey to the 17th and 18th century, when young British aristocrats would return with tangible memories for their country houses back in Britain, but instead of photographs or postcards, they often commissioned portraits of themselves, the cityscapes, or sent back existing historical works including Roman sculptures.
Many of these souvenirs will be on display in this exhibition including a number of masterpieces on rare loans from the British country houses of Burghley House, Holkham Hall and Woburn Abbey.
Opening hours

Tuesday - Sunday: 10:00 - 18:00
