Once home to the Guinness family, this 800-year-old castle has a wonderful location on the shores of Lough Corrib 45 minutes north of Galway by car. Now a member of Red Carnation Hotels it houses 83 lavish rooms and suites, each individually designed with patterned fabrics and wallpaper and enjoy views of the surrounding estate or the lake. For dinner options include the grand George V dining room, the cosy setting of Cullen’s at the Cottage and the bistro-style Dungeon, or perhaps take Afternoon Tea in the elegant Connaught Room. A wide variety of country pursuits are available on the 350- acre estate including horse riding, fishing, falconry and shooting, there is also a nine-hole golf course and a cruise to explore the pristine lake dotted with 365 islands should not be missed.
Also on the estate is The Lodge, originally built in 1865 as a home for the Estate Manager of the castle. This lakeside hotel, with its country house charm, offers 64 rooms and suites a fine dining restaurant and a brasserie. Guests here are welcome to enjoy the restaurants and activities of the Castle.
