Of all the things that come to mind when thinking about Venice, amazing food probably doesn’t come up as much as it should. Of course, the history, the canals and the beautiful architecture will always dominate the conversations about this famous city, but the local cuisine is perhaps one of the most underrated in Italy. This is not to say that it is not known for its food – in particular Linguini alla Vongole or the exquisite tapas-style Cicchetti. However, on a recent visit I was astonished by the dishes we were served at every restaurant we visited.

Some of my personal favourites were: lunch at the Londra Palace – one of our favourite hotels in the city – where we were served exceptional lobster tagliatelle; or the restaurant Poste Vecie, located opposite the famous Rialto fish market at the end of its very own private bridge, where every dish was fresh, refined and cooked to perfection. This restaurant, along with many other Kirker recommendations, can be found in our Venice Guide Notes.

Whether it is a table at a gastronomic restaurant or a small bar serving Cicchetti and Aperol Spritz as you take a break from exploring, amazing food can be found on practically every corner of the city. This is yet another reason why Venice remains a fantastic destination for a short break.
