La Gomera

City

Overview

The second smallest island in the Canaries, La Gomera is only 15 miles in diameter. It remains uncommercialised and is perfect for visitors seeking peace and quiet and natural surroundings. The scenery is dramatic, with coastal cliffs, cut by deep ravines, rising sharply to the peak of Mount Garajonay and its fertile soil means that even the steepest slopes are terraced and farmed. The centre of the island is dominated by the Garajonay National Park, a UNESCO Site that conserves the uniquely beautiful plant life. The Fred Olsen fast-ferry from Los Cristianos in Tenerife to La Gomera takes 40 minutes; alternatively, the local airline, Binter Canarias, operates twice daily flights to Tenerife North airport.
