Palmetum of Santa Cruz de Tenerife
Spring comes early to the volcanic islands of La Gomera and its neighbour Tenerife, and warm, sunny days are to be expected – if not guaranteed. The mid-Atlantic location made the islands strategically important, and Columbus provisioned his ships on La Gomera on his historic voyages in 1492, 1493, and 1498. Since then, botanical surprises have drawn curious gardeners and travellers to the islands, and our two luxurious hotels provide the ideal base from which to explore and enjoy a spectacular array of native and exotic plants thriving in the delightfully benign climate. The two islands offer contrasting environments, from the arid lunar landscapes of Tenerife’s Mount Teide National Park, to the temperate cloud forest shrouded in mist on La Gomera. The diversity of microclimates in between offers a range of conditions for plants, farmers and horticulturalists, who cultivate vineyards, orchards and banana groves as well as gardens.
