The exhibition turns the spotlight on the pioneering achievements of the Blue Rider movement in the early 20th century, from Franz Marc’s symbolic theory of colour to Wassily Kandinsky’s abstractions. There will also be a special focus on the female artists; unusually visible for their time, painters such as Gabriele Münter and Maria Frank-Marc played leading roles in the movement. With over 150 works, the exhibition provides fresh perspectives on one of the most important movements of the European avant-garde.
