Founded by Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears in 1948, the 2026 Festival marks the 50th anniversary of Britten's death. Britten died in Aldeburgh on 4 December 1976 and was buried in the town three days later, choosing Aldeburgh Parish Church over Westminster Abbey, where arrangements were already in place, as his final resting place. We shall include seven concerts this summer, beginning with a rare performance of Handel's first oratorio, followed by recitals of English song, and then symphonies by Prokofiev and Brahms.
