Housed within a 15th century monastery next to the botanic gardens created by Flemish apothecary Pieter Coudenberg, this luxurious retreat is the finest hotel in the city. Its' 108 rooms and suites are elegantly designed with modern furniture, a soothing colour palette and are spread across a combination of historic buildings.
Nestled within the tranquil gardens is an extensive spa where you will find an 18m indoor swimming pool, sauna, steam rooms and 10 treatment rooms. The exceptional culinary options range from Henry’s Bistrot to gastronomic experiences at 'Fine Fleur' (one Michelin star) and 'Hertog Jan' (two Michelin stars) where advanced reservations are essential. From May, guests can also enjoy afternoon tea in the botanical gardens.
The location is in the city centre, almost next door to the Museum Mayer van den Bergh where you will find Mad Meg by Peter Bruegel (the collection is currently housed in the neighbouring Maagdenhuis while renovations take place), and a 15-minute walk from The Cathedral of Our Lady, where you can see three important works by Rubens.
The Flemish master lived and worked for much of his life in Antwerp and, although his house is closed for renovation, the recently reopened baroque garden here is home to a remarkable display of historic tulip varieties, planted to flower in succession until the end of May.
Also within walking distance are the Plantin-Moretus Museum, which houses the oldest printing presses in the world and has a new exhibition of botanical images starting on 21 March and the recently reopened Royal Museum of Fine Arts, reopened in September 2022 after an 11-year renovation which restored the original 19th century building and added modern light-filled galleries.
