Four nights' accommodation with breakfast at The George in Rye
Cultural Tours & Musical Holidays
tbc nights from £tbc per person
This new four-night tour is based in the historic hilltop town of Rye, one of the most atmospheric of the old Cinque Ports, and combines two compelling themes: the remarkable rise of English wine and the military history of a coastline shaped by invasion, defence and conquest. Staying throughout at The George in Rye, military historian Hugh Macdonald-Buchanan traces the story from 1066 at Battle to the Napoleonic defences of Romney Marsh and the Royal Military Canal, and through to the relics of WWI, WW2 and the Battle of Britain. Throughout the tour, we will also make visits to some of the best winemakers in Sussex and Kent with wine writer Jonathan Ray, including Gusbourne, Biddenden and Mountfield.
