The influence of Sigmund Freud is one of the undeniable inspirations for the visual aesthetic for which Dalí is best known. After Dalí first had access to Freud’s translated works in the 1920s, the artist developed a complete fascination - fuelled by his eccentric and complex childhood - culminating in the two men meeting in London in 1938 when Freud was living in exile. This vital creative link is the thread that carries through this exhibition, from the very first forays into the Surrealist movement, to Dalí’s late work. The exhibition takes you chronologically through the key chapters of the artist’s life across seven sections. Each section focuses on works related to Freudian thought, complemented by relevant paintings and drawings by artists including Sigmund Freud himself, Max Ernst and Pablo Picasso.
