Villa Igiea

Sicily 3 nights low season from £1,098 per person

Having reopened last year after lavish restoration by Rocco Forte Hotels, Villa Igiea has finally regained its position as one of Europe’s great ‘grand hotels’. Offering views over the Bay of Palermo and the marina, Villa Igiea is just 10 minutes’ from the city centre using the hotel’s complimentary shuttle service. When it first opened in the early 1900s, Villa Igiea swiftly gained a reputation as one of Europe’s most elegant hotels, with tiered gardens, seafront enfilade and the impressive turreted villa designed by Ernesto Basile.

The Belle Epoque brought a guestlist which included Edward VII, who arrived aboard the Victoria & Albert yacht, accompanied by Queen Alexandra, Princess Victoria and the Tsarina Maria Feodorovna, as well as Hollywood royalty including Errol Flynn, Sophia Loren – and Claudia Cardinale, Burt Lancaster and Alain Delon, who stayed during the shooting of The Leopard. With the careful creativity of Olga Polizzi, this landmark has now been preserved and thoroughly updated to create an elegant and luxurious hotel with 113 stylish rooms and suites. There are extensive terraced gardens, spa, swimming pool and the excellent Florio restaurant.
