Located two hours’ drive from Durban, in the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains, Hartford house is a gracious residence, set in gardens filled with magnificent Blue Gum trees. Built in the 1870’s, Hartford was the home of the last Prime Minister of the Colony of Natal and the house and estate showcase 140 years of South Africa’s history.

Superb cuisine and an excellent wine list are enjoyed in the antique-filled dining rooms or on the wide terrace. There are just 13 bedrooms, all traditionally furnished with their own small terraces and four suites set apart around a small lake. There is an outdoor swimming pool in the garden, a tennis court and also a wellness centre. Fishing and riding can be arranged.
