The famous ‘Bocca della Verità’ in the church of St. Maria in Cosmedin is also close by.
A former Franciscan convent, the building dates from 1625 and many historical features remain; although the style of furnishings is modern and contemporary, particularly in the 72 spacious bedrooms. After a busy day’s sightseeing there are plenty of places to relax, including a lounge bar, a panoramic roof terrace and a peaceful courtyard garden where lunch and dinner are served in fine weather.

Villa Borghese: This elegant villa in the Borghese Gardens was founded by Cardinal Scipione and contains a wonderful collection of classical sculptures and Renaissance art. Highlights include works by Titian and Lotto as well as Canova’s sculpture of Pauline Bonaparte (closed Mondays).
Vatican Museum & Sistine Chapel: Although best known for Michelangelo’s work in the Sistine Chapel and the Raphael Rooms, there is much more of interest including the Etruscan Museum, the Tapestries Gallery and the Vatican’s own important art collection (closed Sundays).
