Short Break
The Parador of Jaén is part of the castle, dramatically situated on the Santa Catalina hill, 800 metres above this charming small town. Refurbished in 2020, the accommodation is in what were once the castle stables, and guests can enjoy the grand public areas including an impressive vaulted ceiling in the main hall, stone arches and chandeliers. There is an excellent restaurant serving local specialities, a summer swimming pool and most rooms have balconies overlooking the town and the olive groves beyond. Jaén itself is a delightful small town with the largest and best-preserved Arab Baths in Europe, a collection of remarkable Andalusian Renaissance buildings, and is well-positioned for exploring nearby Baeza and Ubeda, as well as Granada (about an hour’s drive) or Cordoba (90 minutes away). Malaga airport is about 2 hours’ drive.
